Fifteen Year History of One Church Planter in Northern India,

John Toppo, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India

  • Adopted as an orphan boy and raised by a Senior Pastor who is now retired.
  • John Toppo began a church 15 years ago in a little room with just a few people attending.
  • Today, after 15 years, 93 churches have been planted by this ministry. All of the evangelists who have established these churches have been trained and equipped through India Bible Literature's Church Planting Schools.
  • A Christian School has been established with help from India Bible Literature. This Christian School has funded one Church Planting School class containing at least 10 Church Planters each year -- for 15 years.

Rev. John Toppo's Assembly of God Christian School, recently expanded to accommodate 1,600 students.

From 10 believers to 600 members
and 400 school children in 10 years! Rev. Dr. Bill Scott and Rev. John Toppo with the Munda congregation in January 2006.

Dr. William Scott dedicated a new church established by this ministry 4-5 years ago. It was located in a remote area on the edge of the jungle. It is inhabited by a tribal group known as the Munda. Dr. Scott had to walk through a river to get there.

Recently, this church was visited by India Bible Literature staff who discovered it it has grown from two families to a church that is overflowing and packed tight with first generation converts. These new believers are bursting with energy and enthusiasm.

This relatively new church has already sent out six evangelists who have been trained in India Bible Literature's Church Planting Schools as Church Planters.

John Toppo writes...

In the beginning there were lots of problems. Classes were held in open air and under trees. We thank God for Dr. William Scott, founder of India Bible Literature, who helped us to construct the school building which today has 17 spacious rooms and a capacity for 740 students. Many in the school have accepted Christ and today are in full-time ministry.

Demand for schools in the villages surrounding Ranchi has greatly increased. We have started 17 primary schools where we have village churches. These schools make a positive impact on the village people and also are helping the churches to grow fast!
